Elul 5779: Helping Hands and Humble Hearts

Read Elul's horoscopes in the Jerusalem Post here

Virgo / Betulah, from a Hebrew medical text, Germany 1480 - 1500.
Virgo’s ruling planet Mercury (Kochav), Venus (Noga) and Mars (Ma’adin) as well as the Sun are arrayed like troops as befitting their tribal leader Gad, displaying good order and discipline during Chodesh Elul (August 31 – September 29).

The practice of blowing the shofar every morning during Elul activates those troops like a spiritual call to arms! Betulah, the virgin, is prepared. She knows analysis and preparation is the foundation of every successful battle, and she has no intention of losing her war against the forces of disinformation and deceit.

It is during Elul which we say, “The king is in the field,” indicating the closeness and intimacy with our creator during this month traditionally dedicated to self-examination and repentance.

Virgo’s prodigious analytic powers and insightful introspection are designed specifically to shine during this time of year. Her allies in sober sanity against the forces of chaos include Saturn (Shabbtai), stationing direct in structured, organized Capricorn on September 18. Saturn turns experience into maturity, and with maturity comes wisdom. As seasoned warriors in the war against spiritual darkness, we must pick and choose our battles and select our weapons wisely. The full moon in compassionate, empathetic Pisces on Friday, September 13, is a real-life opportunity to demonstrate humility and empathy.

Extending a helping hand to those in need is good exercise for both heart and soul.

We journey together from ani l’dodi v’dodi li to preparing to crown “HaMelech” during the days between Tekufah Tishrei, the autumnal equinox September 23 and the new moon in Libra September 28. If we allow the shofar to blast holes in the hardened parts of our hearts, we’ll have done the heavy lifting of teshuva as we prepare to go into Rosh HaShanah 5780. May it be a year of blessings, revealed miracles and redemption!

Contradictions and Course Corrections: Chodesh Menachem Av 5779

"Leo"from the Michal Mahzor, Germany 1258.
 Chodesh Menachem Av Tov!
Av 5779
(August 2 – August 30)

Our tradition tells us that when Chodesh Av comes, we reduce our joy, yet it also informs us that Tu b’Av is one of the two most joyful holidays in the Jewish calendar! It was on Tu b’Av that the daughters of Jerusalem disregarded social status and economic disparity by each loaning the other white dresses so that all might dance beneath the moonlight in equality. It was the day the 12 Tribes were reconciled after the civil war and tribal intermarriage permitted again.

Indeed, Chodesh Av is full of contradictions and course-corrections. The new moon in Leo on erev Rosh Chodesh Av scorches hypocrisy and deceit with the white-hot heat of judgment. The (delayed) fast of Tisha b’Av August 11 is sufficiently solemn with Moon in Capricorn, yet the day’s energy wildly fluctuates, with Jupiter direct, Mercury’s ingress into Leo, and Uranus’s retrograde station in Taurus. Universal rather than particularistic love reigns at the full moon in democratic, humanitarian, egalitarian Aquarius on Tu b’Av, August 15. Course-corrections are re-calculated August 23 at the last quarter moon in Gemini with the Sun’s entrance into calm, analytic Virgo. By the Virgo new moon August 30 joined to Mercury in his own sign, clarity is restored.

May Chodesh Av’s powerful potential for extreme emotion be channeled into the passionate quest for dignity, wisdom and discernment!

Tammuz: Total Eclipse of the Heart

CHODESH TAMMUZ TOV!
"Sartan" / Cancer the Crab, from the Michael Mahzor, illuminated parchment manuscript, Germany, 1258

Chodesh Tammuz 5779: TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART

Chodesh Tammuz (July 3 – August 1), associated with the mazal of Cancer (Sartan) the crab, is the only month of the Hebrew calendar whose ruling planet is the Moon. This year the Moon plays an even more important role as Chodesh Tammuz 5779 features two Eclipses!

This month during “Eclipse Season” light, which is consciousness, is hidden and then re-revealed, and it’s never quite the same as it was before. It’s now upgraded awareness, a higher consciousness. These powerful cosmic events underscore themes of security, family, tradition and respect – all of which are associated with Tammuz’s Tribal ruler Reuven, the emotional and sensitive first-born son of Jacob and Leah.

The Solar Eclipse / New Moon in Cancer on July 2 initiates “security” issues. Ideas like “food, home, mother, money” trigger powerful, primal gut reactions. The Lunar Eclipse / Full Moon in Capricorn on July 16 is a faceoff and smackdown between the Divine Feminine and old, outworn images of a punishing, patriarchal god. Venus and the North Node join the Sun in Cancer, eclipsed by the opposition of the Capricorn Full Moon with Saturn and Pluto.

Cardinal Water sign Cancer is concerned with the honor and the memory of the mother as illustrated by Reuven’s relationship with Leah. Mother Earth is powerful this month and disrespecting her brings serious consequences. Honoring the natural creation and respecting her power and majesty honors our Creator and strengthens our own roots!

What can’t you live without? What’s your absolute red line, your most basic, primal desire? We all need to love and be loved. This month we confront our most essential need during what may turn out to be a total eclipse of the heart. When the darkness lifts, a new light shines – may it illuminate our way during this Moon-month of Tammuz!

Trump's State of the Union, Astrology, and Nancy Pelosi's Big Mistake

I don't really enjoy writing about political astrology, but Donald Trump's Natal Chart is SUCH a great and public astrological teaching example, I can hardly resist the temptation! So remember people, this is educational - and I'm doing this for you, not for me! :)
Pelosi and Trump, picture courtesy NBC News

It’s almost as if Nancy Pelosi was working for the GOP when she didn’t consult an astrologer to pick a date for Trump’s delayed State of the Union speech, set to begin at 9pm Eastern time on Tuesday, February 5th. The Moon will have just entered Pisces, crossing into Trump’s 7th House, the place of partnerships (7th House is “We,” opposite 1st House which is “Me”).

Trump's Natal Chart with Transits 5 Feb 2019
Trump's emotional pitch will be to his base (“We”), those he considers to be his “partners” in his Presidency. The transiting asteroid Chiron at 29 degrees Pisces (the critical degree not only of Pisces but the entire 360 degrees of the zodiac!) in his 8th House (shared values, valuables, resources and intimacies) gives him the ability to articulate the collective pain and suffering (as he internalizes / externalizes it), but to whom does that pain and suffering pertain? The transiting North Node conjuncts his natal Venus/Saturn conjunction in Cancer in his 11th House gives a clue. “Security” is the keyword, and ancestral ties (Cancer) structured around patriotic institutions (Saturn) are romanticized (Venus) in his 11th House (his friends, community, collective, affinity groups). He will speak on themes of “Homeland” (Cancer) “Security” (Cancer again, but with Saturn), activating his “friends, community, collective, affinity groups,” which are not universal but particularistic, have a basis in shared heritage (Cancer again) and heirlooms (like the flag). The pain and suffering of "Americans" (his particular definition of what that term means) who share his world view and identity is the pain and suffering channeled by Donald Trump during the transit of Chiron at 29 Pisces.

Transiting Jupiter conjunct his natal Moon in Sagittarius in his 4th House will enlarge and magnify his inner self-perception (4th House) of himself as the child of a “good” and “virtuous” immigrant (Sagittarius), i.e. his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States in 1930, working as a domestic servant in Long Island before marrying Fred Trump in 1936. Trump’s natal chart betrays his inherit insecurity about the nature of his own roots, Mary Anne being symbolized by his natal Moon (“mother”) in the 4th House (nuclear home and family, the “Hidden Parent”). Transiting Jupiter super-sizes this inner image of “mother,” while transiting asteroid Ceres (archetype of the mother who will literally go to hell and back to rescue her child, as embodied in the Ceres (Demeter) / Persephone (Proserpina) / Hades (Pluto) myth) conjuncts Trump’s Black Moon Lilith in 4th House Sagittarius. Trump will defend his actions at the border with immigrants as a defensive measure against what he sees as an encroaching threat. He will most likely exaggerate and dramatize (Sagittarius) about immigrant women and children in distress or bondage (Black Moon Lilith) who need to be rescued (Ceres). The transiting Sun in Aquarius is conjunct his natal asteroid Ceres in his 6th House (ruling “employees” or power differential relationships with unequals) literally makes him believe he is “rescuing” women and children with his immigration policies, including separating families at the border and incarcerating children in detention centers.

Aggressive Mars in Aries transiting his 9th House (“Foreign” or “exotic” people, places and things”) will reflect in pugnacious, war-like language, possibly via threats against other nations. Unstable, erratic Uranus at 29 Aries (the ultimate degree of the Cardinal Fire Sign) in Trump’s 9th House shows his unpredictability and seemingly capricious, inconsistent and often surprising behavior around foreign people and powers.

Trump's Natal Chart with Transits and Progressions
Finally, Trump’s progressed Moon is at 24 Leo conjuncts his natal Mars in Leo in his 12th House, very close to his Ascendant (“Rising Sign”) at 29 (again, the “ultimate” degree of any sign) Leo. He is emotionally unconscious (Moon in 12th House), driven by his subconscious and instinctual mind, perceiving enemies in hidden places (Mars in the 12th House) against whom he must roar (Leo) and rampage (again Leo) and fight (Mars).

Trump’s progressed Venus at 18 Libra conjuncts his natal Jupiter in Libra in his 2nd House, making him feel (despite any evidence to the contrary) invincible and as if he is truly fighting on the side of good and justice (Libra). This transit also says a lot about money: Progressed Venus on Jupiter in the 2nd House is expecting a major windfall (payoff?). Progressed Mars transiting Libra / 2nd House makes him the defender of his personal values and valuables; expect to hear the word “fair” a lot (Libra), although expect to hear it used aggressively (Mars).

Transiting Moon in Pisces during State of the Union directly opposes Trump’s progressed 1st House Sun in Virgo conjunct his Ascendant. Because he was born during a Sun/Moon opposition (during a Lunar eclipse), this natal angle of Sun/Moon opposition will support rather than hinder his efforts.
Chart for State of the Union Address

As I said earlier, Nancy Pelosi should have consulted an astrologer prior to scheduling Trump’s State of the Union for 6pm Pacific time on Tuesday, February 5th. Virgo Rising at 29 degrees (again, the “ultimate” degree of any sign) in Washington, D.C., just as the TV cameras begin to roll makes Mercury the ruling planet of the event, and Mercury is the planet of communication. Transiting Chiron at 29 Pisces directly opposite the Ascendant of the speech itself hints at the embodiment via speech (Virgo at 1st House cusp) of the collective pain “We” share (if “we” includes anyone Trump believes to be in his affinity group, i.e. “Americans” – at least those he believes to be legitimately American, rather than the universal “American” ideal). Transiting Mercury at 22 Aquarius opposes Trump’s natal Mars in Leo, stimulating words and ideas (Mercury) he may intend to signal inclusiveness (Aquarius) but filtered through a defensive lens (Mars), ultimately read as exclusiveness (Leo).

The Ascendant of the State of the Union conjuncts Trump’s progressed Moon. With all this being said, it should be a triumph for Trump and a lesson for the Democrats to consider the stars before giving their greatest foe an open mic.

Pictured herin: Trump’s natal chart with Transits, Trump’s Natal Chart with Transits & Progressions for February 5th, and the chart for Washington, DC at the scheduled time for the State of the Union address.

The Gemini Exchange and The (Leo Sun, Taurus Moon) Winklevoss Brothers

"Birth" Chart of the Gemini Exchange
I just spent the morning (for which I was well-paid) answering the question "What do you think about the name “Gemini” for the cryptocurrency exchange founded by identical twin brothers, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss?" for an astrological client of mine.

My initial reaction was: Why would anyone name a cryptocurrency fund after a Mercury-ruled constellation? Isn’t “mercurial” the last adjective anyone would want to associate with investing? My secondary reaction was: Of course, they named it “Gemini” because they’re identical twins and they know nothing about astrology.

My client asked me to take a closer look into the natal charts of the Gemini Exchange and the charts of the Winklevoss twins themselves.

What I found was that while "Gemini" may be a vanity moniker for their digital currency exchange platform, undoubtedly the twins themselves know nothing about astrology. However, there is something they do know a lot about: how to source expert information. After looking at their charts and the chart of the company, it would be impossible to believe that the Winklevoss twins did NOT employ the services of an expert astrologer when they launched the Gemini Exchange.

I won't go into the entire minutely-detailed astrological explanation here and now, especially since the research I did was on my client's proverbial dime (although I suspect he will encourage me to publish my findings after he makes whatever business decision he ends up making). All I can say with full assurance here and now are three things:

1 ) The Winklevoss Twins are not Geminis. They're Leos with Moon in Taurus, with the same "wealth signature" in their chart as Mick Jagger, Sergey Brin and Bill Clinton.

2 ) They're going to make a shitload of actual, real money for themselves with their Gemini Exchange platform. Whether those who invest in Gemini to build wealth get the same deal or not will depend if they keep their profits in digital or analogue form during the early 2020's.

3 ) Digital Currency won't buy bread and milk when the power grid is disrupted or destroyed. Just sayin'.

Thanks to my good-humored (legitimately "rich" in every way) astrology client who made my morning both profitable and fun, and has signed off on this "share" because, as he says, "the little people deserve to know, even if they can't play with the big boys." (He's a Capricorn - no surprise!) :)

Melania Trump's Conservative Rebellion

Melania Trump, birth time unknown, w/Transits
Warning: Birth time unknown: This chart's Ascendant and therefore the positions of all 12 Houses and the planets therein unknown. What CAN we know about #Melania #Trump just from the planets, asteroids & theoretical mathematical symbols we use in astrology?

Transiting Uranus, the planet of surprises / the unexpected / erratic behavior / "hiddushim" (Divinely revealed ideas) / instability, has moved into Taurus, making a conjunction to Melania's natal asteroid Admetos, symbol of entrenched stubbornness in the already ultra-stubborn sign of Taurus, as well as her natal Sun in Taurus. Uranus literally "shakes things up," especially the status-quo.

Melania has a lot of conservative-tending planets, making her surprisingly traditional (notwithstanding her stint in the skin game). Sun, Saturn, Mercury and Venus all in solid, practical, Venus-ruled, pleasure-loving Taurus, and Moon in practical, materialistic Capricorn. So it takes something BIG, really really big, to move her from her comfort zone.

Today transiting Venus in Leo and Mars in Aquarius form a tight T-Square to her natal Sun/Saturn in Taurus. Transiting Jupiter in Scorpio makes that T-Square into a Grand Cross. There is literally so much internal pressure built up inside of her that she's rigidly suppressed, and unless some of it is released it's going to be Hiroshima, mon amour. At least that's what we're all hoping for - a mushroom cloud of rage directed at her husband. We all desire to partake vicariously - I'll admit it. But do the stars compel? No, they REFLECT - and this is the reflection of Melania's reality right now.

Some little leakage on that front today, as she's wearing an "I Don't Care, Do You?" jacket on her unannounced fact-finding visit to the Texas/Mexico border. "I Don't Care" is clearly a message Donald Trump had better get, loud and clear, unless he wants to find himself in the embarrassing (if indeed he is capable of such an emotion) position of being publicly outed by his wife for any number of potentially horrifying things (the mind boggles). In answer to her jacket's question - hell no, we don't care and we're here for you whenever you jump ship with Barron. An entire nation is ready and waiting to catch you and your child!

Melania wears a message to her husband on her back

Of course, wonderful as that would be, I don't actually expect it to happen. But the great thing about the current planetary transits on her natal chart (and his) is the unexpected does occur, and you never know when!

The other really prominent thing about her chart is the close Ceres/Chiron conjunction in Aries. Ceres is the "Earth Mother" who will go literally to hell and back to save her child, and Chiron is the "Wounded Healer". In Aries this is a trigger for violence (Aries) against children (her own, other children, or herself as a child). When I see that in the chart of a client, I usually ask if there was childhood trauma or violence, and there usually was. Not knowing which of her 12 Houses this conjunction falls in, I can't guess where that "Wounded Healer" around issues of children and the mother/child relationship instinct plays out or originates.

Yallah, Taurus!

Chodesh Iyar began on Sunday, but tonight the Sun moves into Taurus. The lag/overlap between the Hebrew and Gregorian months is why there are actually 36 possible permutations of the Zodiac. For instance, anyone born between Sunday at this evening would be an Iyar Aries. Anyone born between tonight and May 15th will be an Iyar Taurus. Those born between May 15th and May 22nd will be a Sivan Taurus...etc., etc.

("The 36 Signs" - Just another fun fact detailed in my upcoming Astrolojew: The Big Book of Jewish Astrology. Watch for it in 2019! :) )

Happy 70th Birthday, Modern State of Israel! Let's Look at Your Natal Chart!

The natal chart of the Modern State of Israel. Born on 14 May, 1948 at 4pm in Tel Aviv, on Day 20 of Sefirot HaOmer: Yesod Sh'b'Tiferet (5 Iyar 5708).

Venus-ruled Sun in Taurus, Venus-Ruled Libra Rising, making Venus the "Chart Ruler" of the State. Venus in Cancer (home and family) in the 9th House (religion, philosophy, higher education and also rules "foreign" (exotic and/or "different") people and places). Jupiter at 27 degrees Sagittarius (the Galactic Center) in the 3rd House (communications, immediate environment, "siblings"), opposite Uranus in Gemini in the 9th House: Kibbutz Galuyot, the ingathering of the exiles from the four corners of the earth.

Neptune in Libra in the 12th House - the highest dreams and ideals (and also extremely vulnerable to the highest delusions/illusions based on untethered idealism).

Chiron in Scorpio in the 1st House. Will always wear her wound visibly, front-and-center.

Warmly emotional, embracing and enchanting 10th House Moon in Leo - "disproportionately famous". Pluto and Saturn conjunct in 10th House Leo: Publicly visible power struggles. Phoenix rising from the ashes to create structures, periodically destroying them just to start over again.

Mars in Leo, 11th House of community, claal, affinity groups, friendships. Everyone is a soldier defending their "group", whether they wear a uniform or not. Mars in 11th House Leo square Sun in 8th House Taurus: Struggle for power-sharing and equity between the elites and the non-elites. Venusian (peace, love, art, beauty, music, culture) shared values (8th House) in conflict with ego/status/power-motivations.

North Node in Taurus, 7th House. Destiny is rooted in "We", not "me".

Happy 70th Birthday, Modern State of Israel!

"Astrolojew" 5778 / 2018 Overview (Jerusalem Post Article)

I was very flattered and humbled to be asked by the Jerusalem Post to write an article about the "Astrolojew" perspective on the 5778/2018 outlook in general, and for the State of Israel in particular.

In case you didn't get a chance to lay your hands on the print copy (which appeared in the Jerusalem Post's special Sukkot insert on October 4th), or you can't get through the paywall to read it, here's a link to download a PDF version of the article

I'd love to hear what you think. Please send any feedback you might have about to: lorelaikude@yahoo.com

Neptune in Scorpio Generation: Jupiter's Coming For You!

Art by Marc Valdez: "Objects In Your Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear"
If you were born between October 1956 and November 1970, you are part of the Neptune in Scorpio Generation. This is the astrological signature of the "sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll" generation, those of us who sought transcendence and intensity via these substances/behaviors, as well as through meditation, esoteric practices, and alternative religious experiences. In other words: "The Sixties".

As Jupiter transits Scorpio over the next year and makes a conjunction to your natal Neptune, it's possible you'll experience enhanced sensitivity, elevated instinctual awareness, expanded compassion, and enlarged empathy. Depending on other aspects in your individual natal chart (which of the 12 Houses your Neptune in Scorpio is located, as well as other Planetary aspects), you may also experience extreme delusion and distortion of your perception of reality, enhanced vulnerability to substance abuse and addiction, and emotional boundary-shredding.

The potential for the sublime as well as the ridiculous, however in this case the ridiculous is potentially fatal. Neptune's natural proportion-distortion qualities are gigantically enlarged by Jupiter's transit, which super-sizes everything it touches. I'm issuing this warning to the Neptune in Scorpio generation to take heed of Jupiter's transit and remember that "Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear" during this time.

Eclipses, Lunar Nodes, Alexander the Great, and Israel 5778/2018

The Total Solar Eclipse of 4 July 336 BCE was part of the Soros 60 Cycle [i] which was fully visible directly over Jerusalem [ii], and coincided with the ascension of Alexander the Great to the Macedonian throne, after the death of his father Philip [iii].

4 July 336 BCE was Erev Rosh Chodesh Av of the year 3425 [iv] The Eclipse reached Totality at 13:35:01 (1:35pm local time) and the length of Totality was 5 minutes and 53 seconds [v]. The latitude and longitude of the Center of Totality was 30.6 degrees N, 37.4 degrees E. [vi], which is situated in the southeastern desert east of the Jordan river [vii]. The path of Totality was 225 km (140) miles wide.

The Saros 60 Cycle began in the year 1020 BCE and ended in the year 260 CE (the Year 4020-4021 of the Hebrew Calendar). It contained a total of 72 Eclipses, of which 14 were partial, 40 were total, 14 were annular, and 4 were hybrid [viii]

The Saros 60 Cycle ended in 260 CE, the year which is sited as the end of the First Generation of Amoraim (225—260 CE) [i], as well as the establishment of academy of Pumpeditha in Babylonia by Judah ben Ezekiel in 260 CE [ii], the capture of the Roman Emperor Valerian by the Persians (with whom the pro-Persian Jewish opposition was allied) in 260 CE [iii], among other events. Although it is impossible to speculate regarding exact dates in antiquity, the Fall of Troy is dated at 1020 BCE, while religious historians put the beginning of the reign of King Saul, the first anointed King of Israel, in 1026 BCE [iv], shortly after the beginning of the start of the Soros 60 Cycle. This “bookending” of world events marked at the beginning by the fall of Troy to the Greeks and the beginning of the Israelite Monarchy, and ending with the firm establishment of the rabbinic enterprise in Babylon (which would eventually produce the Talmud itself) and the diminution of the tattered remnants of Jewish political activism which found itself backing Persia against Rome, continues to have a ripple effect on Jewish history due to the sensitive position of the North Lunar Node during the exceedingly powerful eclipse of July 336 BCE.

The Lunar Nodes in Jewish Astrology

Jewish Astrological tradition gives enhanced emphasis and attention to the Lunar Nodes and the annual eclipses in natal charts for both individuals and nations. The North and South Nodes of the Moon are not planets, but theoretical mathematical points in space marking the intersection between the Sun’s orbital path around the Earth’s ecliptic, and the Moon’s orbital path around the Earth. The function of the Lunar nodes in astronomy is to predict the path of the annual eclipses through the constellations. Eclipses occur only near the Lunar Nodes. Solar eclipses occur when the passage of the Moon through a node coincides with the New Moon; Lunar eclipses occur when the passage coincides with the Full Moon.

The Nodes are the “head” (North) and “tail” (South) of the cosmic Dragon (“T’li” in the Sefer Yetzirah). Medieval commentators Saadia Gaon, Shabbtai Donnolo, and Ibn Ezra, among others, identify the “Head” and “Tail” of the Dragon in the Sefer Yetzirah with the Lunar Nodes.

The Sefer Yetzirah, which is the foundational text of Jewish astrology, states:

The Dragon (“T’li”) in the Universe is like a King upon his throne

The (Celestial) Wheel in the World is like a King in his province (country, land).

The Heart within the human being is like a King at war.

The Talmud and ancient Jewish mystical texts such as the Sefer Yetzirah (as well as other “magical” texts of the pre-kabbalistic literature belonging to the school of “Merkevah Mysticism”) are the foundation of Jewish Astrology’s close attention to the significance of the lunar nodes and eclipses.

The Lunar Nodes during the time of the 336 BCE Eclipse were at 7 Capricorn (North Node) and 7 Cancer (South Node) [xiii]. The Zodiac Sign of Capricorn is ruled by the Planet Saturn (“Shabtai” in Hebrew), classical astrology’s Planetary Ruler of both Capricorn and Aquarius, strongly associated with the Nation of Israel and the Jewish People [xiv]. At the time of this Eclipse, Saturn was at 12 Capricorn, within a 5-degree orb of the North Node and therefore a powerful influence on the Eclipse.

There is no need to cite references to state unequivocally that Alexander’s reign, which ushered in the Hellenistic Era in Jewish History, had the most significant long-term impact on every aspect of Jewish culture, religion, and world-view than any other era in pre-modern history. Indeed, whether one believes the rabbinic enterprise which began at Yavneh was an adaption to or a rebellion against Hellenism, it was the Greek world-view, imported to post-exilic Judea through Alexander and those who came after him, which most profoundly influenced the development of Judaism until the Enlightenment. Taking the Solar Eclipse of July 336 BCE as the celestial portend of the ascension of Hellenistic culture and its subsequent impact on the Jewish people, the following is a brief examination of the latest phase of the historical trajectory of that event.

The 20th Century

In the 20th Century, the North Node at 7 Capricorn coincided with the outbreak of World War I in August 1917, the beginning of the Arab Revolt in Palestine and the deadly Arab-Jewish riots of April 1936, the ascension of Gamal Abdel Nasser to the presidency of Egypt in November 1954 as well as the birth of future Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on November 19th, 1954.

The North Node was also at 7 Capricorn in June and July of 1973 during the time US President Richard Nixon’s secret Watergate tapes were discovered, as well as during the Lillehammer Affair and the formation of the US Drug Enforcement Agency.  Interestingly, the Total Solar Eclipse of June 30, 1973 (part of the Saros 136 Series), which was the last and longest eclipse of that Saros series (7 minutes and 4 seconds), took place when the North Node was at 7 degrees Capricorn.

February and March of 1992, during which the North Node was again at 7 Capricorn and Saturn was in Saturn-ruled Aquarius, saw the Bush-Yeltsin meeting at Camp David during which the Cold War was officially declared “over”, the signing of the Maastricht Treaty which formed the European Union (EU), the outbreak of the Bosnian War, and South Africa votes to end the Apartheid government.

The 21st Century

During September 2010, the last time the North Node was at 7 Capricorn, President Barak Obama met with Israel’s PM Netanyahu, PA Authority President Abbas, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Egyptian President Mubarak in a major push towards crafting a 2-State Solution in the Middle East. During the same month, Israel bombed Gaza’s smuggling tunnels and blocks the Flotilla headed towards Gaza, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addresses the Palestinian Authority, and PA President Abbas addresses the United Nations. Additionally, during this time North Korea dictator Kim Jong-Un takes power during the transition from his father, Kim Jong-Il.

Future Aspects
  • The North Node will return to 7 Capricorn next in May 2029.
  • Saturn, which traveled through 7 Capricorn in January 1901, late October/early November 1930, December 1959, August-September 1989, will be at 7 Capricorn again during March, May, and November-December 2018.
  • Saturn and the North Node in Capricorn do not conjunct again until December 2047, during which they will be at the same astronomical positions they were during the Total Solar Eclipse of 4 July 336 BCE.

The Talmud [xv] tells us that while Solar Eclipses are a negative omen for the non-Jewish nations, the total eclipse of the Moon is a negative omen for the nation of Israel. The next Total Lunar Eclipse visible from Jerusalem will take place on July 27/28, 2018, which is both Tu b’Av and Shabbos Nachamu, 5778. Saturn will be at 4 Capricorn during that Eclipse, considered “conjunct” (with a -3-degree orb) of the sensitive 7 Capricorn degree, and the Full Moon in Aquarius (co-ruled by Saturn) opposite the Sun in Leo and the North Node in Leo is a significant omen for the Jewish Nation.

Immediately prior to the Lunar Eclipse on Shabbos Nachamu 5778, the Planet Mercury, the “cosmic messenger”, stations Retrograde at 23 Leo, closely conjunct the Natal Mars position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and halfway between the Natal Mars and Natal Saturn positions of the chart of the Modern State of Israel. Occurring in the “public” 10th House of “career and vocation”, this Mercury Retrograde will not happen in a secluded corner or under cover of darkness; but front-and-center for all the world to see.

Mercury’s Retrograde “message” for the Israeli government and the Netanyahu coalition, delivered via communication channels such as the Mercury-ruled media might go something like this:

Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin

As the Jewish Encyclopedia [xvi] explains:

Once when King Belshazzar was banqueting with his lords and drinking wine from the golden vessels of the Temple of Yhwh, a man's hand was seen writing on the wall certain mysterious words. Frightened by the apparition, the king ordered his astrologers to explain the inscription; but they were unable to read it. Daniel was then summoned to the royal palace; and the king promised him costly presents if he would decipher the inscription. Daniel read it "Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin" and explained it to mean that God had "numbered" the kingdom of Belshazzar and brought it to an end; that the king had been weighed and found wanting; and that his kingdom was divided and given to the Medes and Persians (Dan. v. 1-28).
How exactly this might play out on the political stage is anybody’s guess, but aspects to the Luminaries suggest a change in government, leadership, or political structure is indicated. A radical and sudden change in leadership may indeed be “in the stars” for the Modern State of Israel in 2018. Time alone will tell.
